EXCURSIONS: Deschutes River Float Trip

Date
June 1-10 (3 3-day trips)
(8 slots available)

Deschutes River near Madras, OR

Fishing  Opportunities

Fishing the Salmonfly hatch for Reside Trout on the most famous water in Oregon is a trip to be remembered for many years to come. These 2-5 pound trout are husky and scrappy due, in large part, to the abundance of the 3-4" long Pteronarcys Stone flies, nicknamed Salmonflies due to their pink coloration.

Enjoy a 40-mile float over 3 days, with 2 nights stay on the river. Breakfast, lunch and dinner provided. A camp chef will precede you down the river and set up camp and start the evening's meal for you to come in and enjoy after a full day's fishing. Meals are excellent and always filling. This is a trip we have done several times and will continue to enjoy for many years to come. The water is wonderful and remote, the scenery is awesome, and the whitewater on this river is exhilarating.
Location: Madras, OR

Type of accommodations

You must provide your own sleeping bag for the trip. All other needs are provided. This is camping along the river in campground facilities. Showers are set up at camp and all food, non-alcoholic beverages and water are provided. Bring you own 5-6 wt. fly rods and equipment. Waders and studded boots are a must.

Cost
Cost for this adventure is $1,100 per person. There will be a boat and guide for every two-three fishermen. The Deschutes is a wade only river, meaning that we will not fish out of the boat, so 3 people may be accommodated to lessen the cost per angler.

Details
We will meet early in the day on in Madras, OR for the beginning of the trip. We will travel by car to the put in (about 30 minutes) for the first portion of the trip. Each day will cover approximately 10 miles of river, at which point we will camp for the evening.

Fishing is Flies only, and mostly dry flies. This time of the year is the Salmon Fly hatch. If you haven't ever fished this hatch it is incredible how the fish go after these 3-4" long bugs. The average fish is about 16" but hang on to your rod and maybe you'll land a few!
The famed Descutes Redsides are feisty, aggressive and pure heaven to fight on a fly rod.

Camp life on float trips doesn't mean roughing it. Each aspect of every trip is individually tailored to suit our guests. You'll enjoy three hearty, hot meals, including streamside barbecues, prepared by a professional caterer. And at the end of the day, a hot shower, roomy tents and restful cots will refresh you for another round on the river.

Each guide will have responsibility for three anglers in the boat and will instruct in fundamental techniques for fishing Salmonflies, dry and nymphing, for Trout. All fishing is done while wading as it is not permitted to fish the Deschutes from a boat. Trips will finish out late the third day at the end of the drift where your cars will be shuttled to meet you. Enjoy some of the best and least accessed water on this prime trout fishery while enjoying the beauty of the Deschutes River canyon.

Bring a 5-6 weight for Trout with a floating line, an extra spool with a sink tip for fun. Suggested tackle and fly listings will be provided upon a completed reservation.
